What are the advantages with e-signatures from a legal standpoint?

There are many advantages with electronic signatures that gives you a better standard of proof, than with traditional signatures.

Using Assently a person can sign multiple documents with one e-signature, and multiple persons can sign the same documents together from different locations. It's easy to ensure that you are signing the same document. After reviewing a document, each e-signature is applied to the whole document, and when holding a e-signed document you can be sure that the content of of the documents is exactly the same as it was when it was signed; that nothing has been changed or added.

A strong chain of evidence is created, about both the document that's signed and about each individual e-signature itself. Assently also provides a certificate that in plain English describes how to verify the e-signatures, together with checksums (unique fingerprints) for each document.

The strong evidence is also formed by important metadata, like the exact time and other technical information.
