We ensure that email messages sent from Assently are delivered by digitally signing them with DKIM and by having updated SPF records for our domains. We use TLS for encryption.
What is TLS?
Encryption with Transport Layer Security (TLS) prevents someone else from reading the messages while they are in transit between e-mail servers. TLS is the industry standard for secure email.
What is SPF?
A Sender Policy Framework (SPF) record is a type of Domain Name Service (DNS) record that identifies which mail servers are permitted to send email on behalf of the domain.
The purpose of an SPF record is to prevent spammers from sending messages with forged From addresses at your domain. Recipients can refer to the SPF record to determine whether a message purporting to be from your domain comes from an authorized mail server.
This control usually occurs in the recipient mail server, but can also occur directly in a mail client. The result of the control is that forged emails are filtered away, marked as spam or otherwise flagged.
What is DKIM?
Assently adds a digital signature to outgoing message headers using the DKIM standard (DomainKeys Identified Mail). This involves using a private domain key to encrypt our domain's outgoing mail headers, and adding a public version of the key to our domain's DNS records. Recipient servers can then retrieve the public key to decrypt incoming headers and verify that the message really comes from your domain and hasn't been changed along the way.
